Glen Doll – Jocks Road to Davy’s Bourach

Glen Doll – Jocks Road to Davy’s Bourach

Hey Folks, how are you all doing? Well, after getting all enthusiastic about our two days of summer last week, which I mentioned in this previous post, I was really hoping that when we decided we were going to get in some decent hillwalking over the weekend, doing part of Jocks Road, we would at least keep the temperature above freezing. My wish was granted, the temperature remained above freezing, albeit dropping from 22.5 last Wednesday, a stunning day when I was in Edinburgh, to 9.5 on Saturday…… [Read more…]

Mount Keen

Mount Keen

Hi Folks, how’s your week going? Me, well I’m so glad that my expectations for how this trip would turn out were far exceeded, and I can bring you this post, which will allow me some extra time, to photogrpah some recipes that I’ve got coming next week! Mount Keen had been on the cards for some time and we were just waiting for a good weather forecast. Fortunately that happened last weekend and we were able to take full advantage as you can see below! [Read more…]

Driesh and Mayar

Hey Folks, I always think that its good to mix things up every now and then, so this week, instead of the usual recipe on a Thursday today I’m bringing you some of the stunning views that Liam and I were lucky enough to see when we climbed the two Scottish Munros (mountains in Scotland which have a height over 3,000 ft / 914.4 m), Driesh and Mayar on Saturday 21st February. What’s NOT Cooking #1

What’s NOT Cooking #1

Happy Sunday Folks, I hope your weekend is going well! 😀

So wait…What? Whoa!! What’s this all about? A post from NeilsHealthyMeals on a Sunday? No way! What’s going on? Hackers? Spammers? Ha ha, no seriously I’ve been meaning to start an extra weekly update, I’ve just spent ages mulling over what exactly I’m going to put in it, and what I’m going to call it. 😮 [Read more…]

The Fife Lomond Hills

The Fife Lomond Hills

I love Scotland. Sure, it has it’s ups and downs like any other place or just as life does itself. But I’m a firm believer that if you can try to see past all that and look for the good of what you have in front of you and around you, then you may be pleasantly surprised. Walking always helps to clear my mind, especially when changes are happening, and this walk through the Fife Lomond Hills with Lynne was just the ticket! 😀 [Read more…]

Ben Lomond with Lynne

Ben Lomond with Lynne

What no recipe? Nope, not today; recipes will resume from next Tuesday. 🙂

It’s been a while since I posted anything about my hill walking and as this is a healthy living blog I decided it was time to show you again why I love the great outdoors of Scotland. This recent outing to Ben Lomond, in which Lynne (my other half and the person who behind the scenes corrects my grammar and spelling mistakes 😉 ) accompanied me for her first Munro. [Read more…]

Friday Gym

This is my last gym session of the week, Friday gym. The weekend is upon me and I know when I get through my Friday gym routine, then the weekend can start properly!

My neilshealthymeals blog is all about the balance between healthy living but still enjoying treats and all the other culinary delights that life has to offer. I wrote, and posted, my weekly exercise routine to emphasise that it goes hand in hand with my lifestyle. [Read more…]

Wednesday Gym

Wednesday Gym

I’ve just finished today’s Wednesday gym session. As I mentioned earlier in my “Exercise Blog” I go there from 06.00 – 07.15 each Wednesday and my routine this day is as simple as follows:-

60 minutes running on the treadmill at speed 11.5 with no incline.

I love it. I put my iPod on with some kind of motivational music compilation that doesn’t need any changing and that keeps me going and motivated to run for the whole hour.

Of course it’s not easy to start off with [Read more…]

Tuesday Pilates and Free Weights

Tuesday Pilates and Free Weights

Tuesday Pilates and Free Weights (At Home)

Tuesday’s are a day when I do pilates and strength straining with free weights. I get up every week day at the same time regardless (alarm goes off at 4.00am) and I’m used to my routine now, so this early start doesn’t faze me. Indeed I’ve always been a morning person so I do tend to get so much more done early on, before I begin to fade! [Read more…]

Monday – Gym

Monday – Gym

For me, I need to get my exercise routine over and done with early, and preferably first thing in the morning. Why? Because for me, in the evening I am tired from my work and I just want to go home and have something nice for dinner and watch some TV (normally cooking programs). It also means, it’s done and I haven’t reached the end of the day, where I might be tempted to put it off, through being overly tired, or at the stage where I just can’t be bothered. As it gets later in the day, my enthusiasm generally declines. I know myself too well, it would be easy at 4.30pm to say “oh well I’ll just go tomorrow” and that probably wouldn’t happen.
