Tuesday 10th October is World Porridge Day 2018. Today, Lady Lynne and I are posting our #PorridgeSmiles pictures and texting ‘OATS18 £2’ to 70070 to provide a hungry child with school meals for a month. I'm asking YOU my Neil's Healthy Meals readers to donate too and to bring a smile to a hungry child, with porridge!

World Porridge Day 2018 aims to raise awareness of the role that a simple bowl of porridge plays at Mary's Meals projects in Malawi, Liberia and Zambia

Every school day children there receive a daily mug of vitamin-enriched maize porridge. This provides an incentive for children to go to school.

What this means is that chronically poor children are attracted to the classroom where they can gain a basic education that can provide an escape route from poverty.

World Porridge Day celebrates the huge difference this daily mug of porridge makes to the lives of chronically hungry children.

It's no secret that Lady Lynne and I are huge lovers of Scotland's traditional national dish, porridge.

So since 2016, when Mary's Meals alerted us to the crisis in Malawi, and how we can help just by creating our #PorridgeSmiles pictures and then texting ‘OATS18 £2’ to 70070 to provide a hungry child with school meals for a month there were no questions to ask.

We have been promoting this essential cause every year.

In fact, I was so taken with how Mary's Meals philosophy and meaning fitted my own personal values, that after reading "The Shed That Fed A Million Children" I set up a regular monthly cash donation to the charity.

All you need to do to help too is Text ‘OATS18 £2’ to 70070 if you're a UK reader.
