5-Ingredient no bake chocolate brownies are so easy to make. These delicious treats taste so fudgy and decadent even though they're made with just a handful of store cupboard items!
These delicious 5-Ingredient no bake chocolate brownies are not only simple to make but they're just 105 calories each too!
I've made these healthy no bake brownies as well by omitting any flour, butter and sugar. Using ground up raisins and nuts instead.
That means they're also dairy free, gluten free and suitable for vegans as well.
Plus there's less washing up. I don't know about you folks but that's definitely a big tick in my box when I'm baking!
All you need to make these 5-Ingredient no bake chocolate brownies are dried raisins, unsalted peanuts, cocoa powder, dark chocolate chips and vanilla extract.
I know there's lots of similar recipes using dates to make no bake brownies.
However, since dates can be expensive and not always available I use dried raisins soaked in water instead.
Again some recipes might use almonds but I prefer to use unsalted peanuts which are also cheaper and easier to ground in a food processor.
Once you've got your basic 5 ingredients together it's just a case of putting them all into your food processor.
It shouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes to process all of the ingredients into a ground mixture that sticks well together.
Then you just tip your ingredients into your pre-lined square baking tin (see link below for the tin I use) and pop in the fridge overnight.
In the morning, remove from the fridge, lift out the hardened slab using the greaseproof paper onto a cutting board, and cut into 16 squares.
Keep your brownies in the fridge in an airtight container to keep as fresh as possible until time to eat.
They should last 2 - 3 days in your fridge. That's if you aren't tempted to eat them all in that time first!

I use this 8" (20cm x 20cm) square cake pan for this recipe.
It's great value for money and a kitchen essential.
Made with goldflon non stick coating it prevents food from sticking to the pan.

Equipment
Ingredients
- 160 g dried raisins
- 150 g unsalted peanuts
- 4 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 50 g dark chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Line the bottom and sides of a 20cm x 20cm square baking tin with greaseproof / parchment paper.
- Put the raisins in a glass bowl and pour over enough boiling water just to cover them. Wait 10 minutes until the raisins have plumped up. Drain the raisins but keep the raisin water.
- Add the raisins, peanuts, cocoa powder, chocolate chips and vanilla into a food processor. Process until the mixture is well combined and sticking together. If the mixture is not sticking together add a little of the reserved raisin water and process again.
- Put the combined sticky mixture into the lined baking tin and flatten it out all over by pressing down with the tips of your fingers making sure the bottom of the tin is evenly lined.
- Place the baking tin into the fridge overnight.
- In the morning, remove from the fridge, lift out the hardened slab using the greaseproof paper onto a cutting board, and cut into 16 squares.
- Store in a fridge in an airtight container to keep as fresh as possible until time to eat.
David @ Spiced
What a great idea to use raisins in these brownies! I have seen - and indeed made - brownies with dates, and they were quite tasty. However, the raisins are close enough and a lot cheaper. Perfect! And less clean up sounds like my kind of recipe, too - I don't mind cleaning dishes, but I certainly appreciate days when the dishes aren't piled too high! These brownies look awesome, Neil!
Neil
I've always previously made brownies with dates too David. They've always turned out great. These brownies using raisins turned out great too. Plus as you say, the raisins are cheaper to use, so being Scottish (and frugal!) that's a major bonus! Thanks David!
Jeff the Chef
This is not what I need to hear, Neil, that brownies can easily be made with five simple ingredients. I need to hear that the list of ingredients in a mile long, and the method is extremely complicated. Otherwise, I'll just be baking amazing brownies at a moment's notice, and eat nothing but brownies day and night! ๐
Neil
Ha ha! I like that Jeff. But who needs a list of ingredients and a complicated baking method? I say give me the brownies with as much minimum effort as possible! Enjoy eating these day and night!
Ben @ Havocinthekitchen
While, of course, I love traditional brownies, this simplified variation looks and sounds delicious! Raisins is an intriguing ingredient. Like David, I've seen brownies with dates, but never with raisins. And only 105 calories a slice? I'll eat 10! ๐
Neil
That's fine Ben. If you eat 10 of these that's still only half of your daily recommended calorie intake. ๐
Chef Mimi
I donโt bake often, and I donโt make sweets often, mostly because Iโd eat it all, but these do sound wonderful. And the holidays are coming up...
Neil
Thanks Mimi. That's exactly why I thought this was a great time to publish my alternative brownies recipe. What with the holidays coming up! ๐
Laura
Neil - these look and sound delicious! And, in the run-up to the holiday, I can't think of anything better than lower-calorie, no-bake treats! Thanks for all the substitutions, too,, because with fewer grocery trips, these are so helpful! and, for the record, I'm not sure these would even last a full day in my fridge.
Neil
Exactly my thoughts for creating this recipe Laura, thanks! We are the same here, trying to make less grocery trips because of the pandemic situation. So anything in the store cupboard is currently being utilised to make delicious treats like these! ๐
Ron
Neil, I make no-bake date bars for Christmas that are similar, but they don't have chocolate chips in them. Great idea! I will be going with your version this year. But I'll use dates as they're cheaper here than raisins. Our raisins come from the US, but the dates come for Iran mostly. So, I guess that's why they're cheaper. Go figure.
Neil
Dates cheaper than raisins Ron? Well I never thought that would be so. But if I were in your position too and the dates were cheaper I'd be making your version with dates. And the chocolate chips of course. Cause you need a bit of chocolate at Christmas. Or really at any time, eh? ๐
Katerina
Ohh yes - what a great idea to use raisins instead of dates, Neil! We have fresh dates available quite readily here in Australia but that's only recently (as far as I know), they used to be hard to get. Subbing in raisins is definitely cheaper though and I bet just as delicious. I also like that this brownie is not baked but raw - somehow the desserts that come out of a fridge or a freezer always sound all the more delicious to me,
Neil
THanks Katerina. I just like to try and make every baked treat as cheap and as simple as possible. So I save money not only by using raisins, but also by not having to turn the oven on! ๐

Wow what a fun and healthy recipe! Thanks for sharing!
