This garlic mushroom and goats cheese puff pastry tart will take your taste buds on an amazing journey!

Not only is it delicious but it's extremely versatile too.

I've served it up in so many ways.

It goes down well as a brunch and also as a dinner served with a green and tomato salad.

It's great too cut up into petite little squares and served as a hors d’oeuvre dinner party course.

And you can even eat this goats cheese puff pastry tart cold. Maybe as part of a picnic or even a packed lunch!

I've made a lot of similar recipes using filo pastry such as my red pepper and spinach filo tart

You can check out some other suggested pastry tart recipes below.

Today though, for this goats cheese tart I used puff pastry to give the recipe extra bulk.

You could of course use filo pastry if you wanted to instead and layer those sheets to give it more extra bulk.

    Step By Step Instructions

Detailed instructions are in the recipe card below. But here is a quick step by step guide of how to make this goats cheese puff pastry tart recipe:

Rolled out puff pastry on a baking sheet with a 2cm edge scored.

    Steps 1 & 2

    • Pre-heat Oven 200C Fan.
    • Roll out the pastry onto a baking sheet / tray. Score an edge and prick the pastry using a fork a few times.
Onion, garlic and mushrooms sautéd in a frying pan.

    Step 3

Cooked onion, garlic and mushrooms spread over the puff pastry.

    Step 4

    • Spread the mushroom mixture over the pastry avoiding the edges.
Grated goats cheese sprinked over the top of the onion, garlic and mushroom mix.

    Step 6

    • Brush the edge with a little olive oil.
Baked garlic mushroom and goats cheese tart removed from the oven.

    Step 8

    • Serve with a green or tomato salad.

    Substitutions

    • Puff Pastry - I use ready rolled puff pastry sheets for convenience. You can use any puff pastry you want though. Or even make your own.
    • Olive Oil - cooking olive oil is fine. You could also use vegetable oil.
    • Onion - you could use shallots instead.
    • White Mushrooms - I just use ordinary white mushrooms but any kind will work.
    • Garlic Cloves - the garlic needs to be fresh.
    • Goats Cheese - although I use grated hard goats cheese most other kinds of grated hard cheese will work as well but you might not get the same flavours.

I do love puff pastry! It's such an easy and versatile ingredient for the kitchen. One of the first recipes I ever made for Laura was a puff pastry tart with asparagus. This version sounds fantastic with the goat cheese + 'shrooms. I'll have to give it a try!
