Tips For How To Make This Wholemeal Honey Bread
- Use strong (bread making) wholemeal flour. You need the gluten from that type of flour. Ordinary plain wholemeal flour will not work for this recipe.
- Make sure your yogurt and milk are at room temperature to help the bread cook throughout. Otherwise you might end up with a raw centre.
- Use a good quality runny honey. If you feel the bread is too sweet you can adjust the quantity but that may mean tweaking the quantities of the other liquid ingredients.
- For the olive oil I use a good quality cooking olive oil. There's no need to get a special olive oil for this bread recipe.
- Oven temperature. Every oven is different and you may need to experiment with yours to get the exact timing you need. The timings I give in the recipe below are what works for me in my oven and guidance only.

Wholemeal Honey Bread Recipe
To store this bread allow it to cool fully. Then store it in an airtight container.
As there's no artificial preservates in this recipe it will only last about 4 - 5 days in the airtight container.
If you want to make the bread last longer then I recommend slicing the loaf completely and freezing it in a bread bag in your freezer.
Slices of the wholemeal honey bread can be taken out of your freezer when required. You can let them defrost or toast them.
I often take out a couple of slices in the morning which usually defrost in time to go with a lunchtime soup!

Oh, I do love baking bread! The house just smells amazing while bread is in the oven, and nothing beats a slice of freshly baked bread. And toasting up a slice the next morning with butter and jam? Now that'll get me out of bed! This whole wheat bread sounds fantastic, Neil...I'll have to give it a shot!
Neil
As a fellow baker David, you'll love it! Hope you give it a try and let me know what you think!

I leave the baking to the experts. I'm not much of a baker, because you have to measure, not a strength of mine
Neil
No problems Charles. This one is pretty easy if you wanted to give it a go. But I understand about the measuring, it can be tricky. Also getting the length of time of baking in the oven, depending on what type of oven you have can be tricky too.
Michelle
I've never thought to incorporate yogurt in bread but it totally makes sense -- this look fantastic! I'll have to give it a try the next time I've got a tub of Greek yogurt!
Neil
Thanks Michelle. I've been using yogurt in my bread for years and I can honestly say when I started to do that it was a game changer!
Jeff the Chef
I was interested to read about your tip for slicing and then freezing a loaf. I've always frozen them unsliced. I'll have to try that!
Neil
It's the best way to be able to quickly take out a slice or two then defrost / toast rather than having to defrost the whole loaf which might all go to waste. ๐
Ben | Havocinthekitchen
This bread looks terrific! I love the addition of honey for a lovely subtle sweet aftertaste, and your house must smell amazing when you were baking it! Loving the addition of Greek yogurt, too for the added lightness and moisture and health benefits.
Neil
Thanks Ben! Yeah it's a really unique and extremely filling bread. You're right, the house does smell amazing when it's being baked!
Raymund
That looks perfectly made, from the shape to the colour. Agree home made bread is the best specailly when it is fresh out of the oven, nothing can beat that
Neil
Thanks Raymund. It's the smell of freshly baked bread that really is something!
