- White Potatoes

Instructions
Detailed instructions are in the recipe card below. But here is a quick step by step guide of how to make this shepherd's pie with turkey mince recipe:
Step 1 & 2
- Preheat oven to 180 Degrees C Fan.
- Peel and chop potatoes. Place in a pan of cold water. Cook until soft.
Step 3
- Heat olive oil and sauté the onion.
Step 4
- Add in turkey mince and cook together. Season to taste.
Step 5
- Add stock, frozen vegetables and tomato paste and simmer.
Step 6
- Pour turkey mince vegetable mixture into casserole dish.
Step 7
- Drain and mash potatoes. Season to taste.
Step 8
- Spoon mash over top of turkey mince mixture.
Step 9
- Bake your ground turkey shepherd's pie until lightly browned.
Step 9 cont.
- Allow to rest before serving. This gives you time to cook any additional vegetables.
Substitutions
- White Potatoes - use the best potatoes for mash. In the U.S Russet potatoes or Yukon Gold are fine. If in the U.K. use Maris Piper or King Edward.
- Olive Oil - vegetable oil is fine.
- Onion
- Turkey Mince - I use lean turkey mince which contains about 7% fat. You can use any turkey mince but this will change the nutritional information.
- Chicken Stock
- Frozen Mixed Vegetables - I use a bag of mixed frozen vegetables. You could also use a mixture of green beans, sweetcorn and frozen peas.
- Tomato Puree
- Unsalted Butter
- Milk
- Freshly Ground Salt And Black Pepper

Ingredients
- 650 g white potatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large Onion finely diced
- 500 g lean turkey mince
- 250 ml chicken stock
- 110 g frozen mixed veg
- 1 tablespoon tomato puree
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoon milk
- Freshly Ground Salt and Black Pepper
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 180 Degrees C Fan.
- Peel the potatoes, cut them into small chunks, and cover them with cold water in a saucepan. Bring the saucepan to the boil, and then simmer the potatoes until soft about 10 – 15 mins.
- While potatoes are cooking, gently heat the olive oil in a large pan, add the onion and sauté until softened for about 3 – 4 minutes.
- Add the turkey mince and gently cook the mince until no longer pink breaking it down with a wooden spatula for about 5 minutes. Season to taste.
- Stir in the stock, frozen vegetables and tomato paste and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Cover the bottom of a shallow ovenproof baking dish with the turkey and veg mixture.
- Drain the cooked potatoes, tip them back into their saucepan and mash together with the butter and milk. Season to taste.
- Spoon mash over the turkey mince mixture in the dish. Smooth down with back of a spoon.
- Bake for about 20 – 25 mins until lightly browned. Allow to rest for 5 – 10 minutes before serving.
