About Bloggers Resources

About Bloggers Resources is a section of Neil’s Healthy Meals dedicated to bringing tips and advice on the subject of blogging and in particular food blogging.

Where to start, where to find further resources, products I use and the sharing of best practice and valuable information that I’ve learned through college courses and further reading online, that’s everything that you’ll find in the posts in this section.

So, without further ado, let’s get started!

My blog became 1 year old on 9th February 2015. 😀

I wrote all about it here.

During the first year I used all of the products below to help create this little piece of Lynne and I on the web. I wanted to share these bloggers resources, details and links with you. Many of them I wish I had found sooner, rather than later, which would have avoided spending hours of time looking for the right information!

Some of these links may be affiliate links of which I will earn a small commission from if you were to purchase through clicking the link. Any commission is used to help fund the web hosting costs and running of our website.

We do not make any money from this site. We enjoy providing you with something yummy (hopefully) to read and sharing our lives with you. 🙂

Bluehost Web  Hosting

Bluehost is my Web Hosting company. I have had excellent experience from them so far. Not only do they quickly and efficiently answer any queries I might have about their hosting, but they have helped me greatly in other areas, such as when I needed to set up a separate, duplicate site, so that I could begin to make and test site changes without affecting the main site. So this is why I seriously recommend them.

You can pay monthly or annually for Bluehost to host your self-hosted WordPress blog. You can read about what self-hosted is here. You can click on my affiliate link below for more details. With Bluehost you can transfer your current registered domain name (if you have one) or if you are just starting out, they have the option for you to register your new chosen domain name with them.

Bluehost have written and video instructions which will help you install WordPress (the Content Management Software) for building your blog. You will get comprehensive step-by-step video instructions for doing this specifically with Bluehost if you subscribe to Food Blogger Pro (below) though, tailored for food blogs.

Once you have WordPress Installed, you can use one of the free themes it comes with, but it is a much smarter move to choose a specific theme, making it easier for you to customize and design your blog to how you want it to look.

StudioPress Themes

My blog currently runs on the Luscious WordPress child theme from StudioPress. StudioPress offer a whole range of child themes including this one. Their support is fantastic and many times when I have asked for help in changing some specific coding on my blog they have assisted quickly.

You can check out their latest themes for WordPress and purchase them through this link:-

Food Blogger Pro

In May 2014 I joined Food Blogger Pro. I am still a member of this fantastic community today. The site has step by step videos for setting up and customising, correctly, your first self hosted WordPress Food Blog.

I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to get your site set-up right. When I joined I actually went through every video and pretty much changed my original site so that it was much more user friendly, had correct SEO set up, and essential security settings to prevent hacking and just looked far more professional!

Food Blogger Pro helps with everything food photography wise too, including using your DLSR camera, correct lighting, composition, editing software like Lightroom and online food gallery submission to help with growing your blog following.

Plus, if you need help with something on your blog. Just ask the community!

Tasty Food Photography eBook

I purchased this Tasty Food Photography eBook in July 2014. It is an excellent source of information for anyone looking to improve their food photography. It starts at the very basics of DSLR use and includes detailed composition ideas and image editing tutorial videos too.
